Before and Afters - well, as of right now's

I accidentally posted this to the wrong blog yesterday...so here we go again!  Sorry Miranda, you get it twice.

Mashup photo of my bedroom - the new wall and trim color is visible on the left.  The right is how the house was when it was showing and I bought it.

Trim!

Frank said oil based paint was the way to go and he's damn right! It
looks great though these pictures tell a different tale.

Bedroom paint is done!

Darker than I thought but I still like it. The trim is only primered
here.

Furnace

The new furnace and water heater are cute, tidy, and efficient!

New ceiling panel

And bathroom fan!

New toilet

I'm not sure if it bugs me that it's off center, but I think it's
where the old hole was.

Final word on floors

The refinishing is done and I will now shut up about the floors!

Welcome mat!

Hardwood Floors update!

I wish I got these pictures yesterday because it was sunny yesterday and the floors appear lighter.  Anyway - the floors looks amazing, I'm so happy I had them done!  So far, I believe they have mostly been sealed but not varnished.  I am pretty sure I am not supposed to go in the house yet but I can't wait!

I brought my landlord, Frank Navarro, to the house.  He owns about 35 properties in the area and knows a lot about real estate in the area.  He was really impressed with the house, the locatin, the lot, the price I paid.   He was very impressed with the quality of work being done on the house by Ming my contractor.

I'm so happy with the color of the kitchen floors.  Staining them dark was a bit of a gamble, but I'm really pleased with how it came out.

The dining room in all its glory!

The dark detail really stands out now that the color of the floors has lightned up.

I still don't know what color to paint the living room. I'm considering chocolate brown or a dark chili red.  Or salmon.

There is a new furniture store down the street, I am considering this piece for the dining room.

Um excuse me, this is the most awesome swiveling tv chair I've ever seen.  I might have to get this.

The Blue is Done!

And it looks awesome.  The put up the light fixtures, which is too bad, since I'm getting new ones anyway.

The top ones:  the cylinder and the one next to it.  I'm considering them for either the living room or maybe the dining room.  Not sure i love either of them but they're better than what's there right now.

This (above) is the other contender, but I don't know if it matches the style of the rooms at all.  It's certainly brighter, which for some reason I think I need.  But I probably don't.

I wonder if I should put a little small bistro table in the living room?

This is what it will look like from the living room, looking toward the dining room.  The two colors don't seem to go that well together but it's not the end of the world, either.

This is what it currently looks like next to the hardwood floor with sunlight on it.  But the hardwood floor, as of today, is being sanded down and refinished.  yeah!

Uh oh!  I didn't notice this discoloration until I looked at the picture.  I'll have to check it out - hopefully it's just a part of the drying process.

Here is the sanding gear.

End of January, 2009

The kitchen is dusty but the house does look nice in the daytime. Mind you, I haven't seen it in the daytime very often!

The bathroom looks like crap! But I'll remind you what's being done:
  • new toilet
  • new bathroom fan
  • new ceiling panel
  • paint

The Dining Room with Primer. It's getting painted blue! Actually at the time of this posting, it's already blue but I have no pictures of it yet. The plan for the dining room is Tiffany Blue with white trim and black furniture, decorated with pink peonies.

This (above) is the inspiration room for my dining room. I went to a wedding in 2004 in Cape May, New Jersey, and this was the room that the reception was held in. The entire place is beautiful, you can check it out here. Anyway - I like the blue walls, white trim and black accents. Katy just mentioned that I should consider black shades, too! Or maybe shutters...?

Here's the guy putting on some primer!

And here's the black glass chandelier. I'm going to Lowe's after work today to buy it. Takes two weeks to get delivered.

Tomorrow morning, I meet King Chen who will be refinishing the hardwood floors.
